Angels and Light

Angel Light
Angel Light

Angels are often described as light.

As I continue my angel series of what an angel might look like, I'm finding many doctrines describe angels with light. Throughout history and religions, they are described as the shining ones, as having a radiant light, or like flames of fire; with the light being of a higher power and a spirit of good as opposed to darkness.

With this third painting, my intentions were to depict an angel of light, so to speak, to paint an angel more luminous than my previous paintings and more spiritlike than the human form. My first two angel paintings were created from what I was familiar with at the time, images of human forms and wings. For this one, I decided to eliminate any resemblance of gender or wings, since those descriptions aren't consistent across the doctrines. Yet, I included a hint of form to help us recognize the image as an angel, similar to when we recognize familiar patterns in cloud gazing.

In my effort to paint the light as bright as possible, I used a dark sky, and I ended up with a celestial space. My guiding thoughts while painting were of the radiant energy of the sun, a nebula, and our visible light spectrum. As inspiring as it was to paint this celestial space, I find that I need to paint another angel of light, one that is more airy and translucent, and less starlike. I will attempt this in angle painting #4.

You can follow my angel explorations on my blog page. This is my third painting in a series, I will begin a fourth painting soon.

The angel paintings are for sale, you can find them under My Artworks.
